01 About MDC

Meta Developer Communities was inaugurated on 4th January 2023 as Meta Developer Circles, in official partnership with Meta. When Meta discontinued its global Developer Circles program in 2024, we didn't dissolve — we evolved.

Rebranded and evolved as an independent, student-driven network, MDC continues the same founding mission: technical collaboration, peer-to-peer learning, and mentorship from people who push you further than you'd push yourself. Today MDC operates in partnership with the GITAM Career Guidance Centre and Student Life, giving every project, hackathon, and initiative real institutional weight.

So Far

From a Meta-affiliated circle to an independent institution within GITAM — the story of how MDC came to be.

Jan 2023

Inaugurated as Meta Developer Circles

Launched in official association with Meta (formerly Facebook), planting the first seed of a developer-first community at GITAM.

2024

Meta discontinues Developer Circles globally

Rather than shutting down, the community chose to evolve — redefining its identity while protecting its founding vision.

2024 → Present

Evolved as Meta Developer Communities

An independent, self-sustained network — operating in collaboration with GCGC and Student Life, mentored by faculty, and led entirely by students.

The visual identity behind everything MDC ships.

  • 3 posters per event: Instagram, TV, A3.
  • Designs templates for every official report.
  • Builds a real design system, not one-offs.

Captures every moment — in stills and motion.

  • 6–7 reels across the academic year.
  • 5–6 best photos per event, plus year-end video.
  • Hands-on growth in photo and video storytelling.

Public Relations

Grows MDC's presence at every touchpoint.

  • Offline promotion at 50%+ of events.

Rules and
Regulations.

A community runs on trust. Here's what's expected of every member — kept simple, not buried in fine print.

Conduct

Represent MDC with dignity — no negativity about the club in front of students, faculty, or dignitaries. Confidentiality on internal plans and strategy is non-negotiable. Respect every member; no false information, no backbiting.

Communication

Respond to club communications within the stipulated time. Group chats are a no-message zone from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM, except genuine urgency.

Leave Policy

Notify your Domain Lead at least 48 hours in advance if you can't attend. In genuine emergencies, 4 hours' notice is acceptable. Approval sits with the Executive Body.

Termination Grounds

Consistently unfulfilled responsibilities, 3 consecutive unexcused absences, or violation of MDC's code of conduct can result in removal — decided at the Executive Body's discretion.

Certificate
Eligibility.

Certificates are earned, not automatic. Even if minimum criteria are met, MDC reserves the right to withhold a certificate if contribution falls below expected standards.

Attendance Requirement

Maintain 75% overall attendance across Events, Domain Meetings, and Core Team Meetings — with 50%+ encouraged in each category individually.

Domain Requirement

Deliver on your domain's core tasks — events organized, projects shipped, and reviews cleared on schedule — as laid out for your domain above.

Statement of Contribution

Submit your SOC on MDC's standard template by 03rd April 2027, documenting your tasks, initiatives, and impact — the official record considered for certification.

AY 2026–27 comes full circle with a formal Certification Ceremony recognizing everyone who showed up and delivered.

Closing Process

Certification is gated on attendance (75%+), domain deliverables, and a submitted Statement of Contribution — all reviewed before certificates are finalized.

Letter of
Selection.

The Letter of Selection is MDC's formal, signed confirmation that you're officially part of the community.

  • What it is — an official letter issued by MDC confirming your selection and role within the community.
  • Who receives it — every newly selected member, right at the start of their MDC journey.
  • How it works — the club issues the letter, and the member signs to accept and acknowledge it.
  • Why it matters — it stands as an official, signed record of your selection into MDC.
